Blue Orchard Mason Bees

from 10.00

OUT OF STOCK UNTIL THE FALL COCOON HARVEST.

Mason bees are very gentle, fun to watch, and do not sting like a honeybee can. They are extremely efficient pollinators. One native bee can do the work of up to 100 honey bees, without having to maintain a hive, and without the risk of painful stings. They stay close to home, so you will see the benefits of owning these bees with your own eyes and in your own increased yields in the garden!

Blue Orchard Mason Bees are shipped while still in their cocoons, mature and ready to hatch. Mason bee cocoons are available February 1 - April 15. They pollinate primarily fruit trees, nut trees, and spring flowers. These bees are prolific, and are able to increase their numbers considerably from year to year with proper care. The cocoons you receive are harvested from my own mason bee houses in the fall. They have been removed from their nesting materials and checked for diseases and parasites before being stored in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. For every 10 cocoons ordered you will receive 1-2 female cocoons, and the rest will be male. A single female will lay approximately 30-35 eggs to hatch the following year. I recommend beginning with 40 cocoons, and placing them outside in groups of 10 at a time. Complete instructions are included with your order.

Our native bees are declining in number for various reasons, including  pesticide use and loss of their native habitat. We rely on our native bees to pollinate many food crops and flowers which can not be pollinated by honeybees. Please help save the bees!
